Step 1: Choose Your Micro-Palace (Just One Room!)

Your Task: Pick a room you know intimately without having to see it. Your bedroom, your living room, or your office is a perfect choice.

Close your eyes for 30 seconds and mentally stand in the doorway. Look around. See the furniture, the windows, the objects. This familiar space is the foundation of your new skill.

Step 2: Identify 5 “Loud” Loci

“Loci” is just a fancy word for locations where you’ll store your memories. For your first palace, you want these locations to be “loud”—big, distinct, and unmissable.

Your Task: Starting from the door of your chosen room and moving clockwise, pick five large, obvious objects. For example, in a bedroom, your list might look like this:

Your Task: Here is the list of five items we will place in your new palace:

1. A Tiger
2. A Gallon of Blue Paint
3. A Rocket Ship

5. A Giant Talking Cactus

Step 4: Create Action-Packed Images

This is the most important and fun part. You’re going to place each item from the list onto a locus in your palace. The secret is to make the image interact with the location in a bizarre, action-packed way.

Your Task: Create these scenes in your mind’s eye, one by one.

• Locus 1 (Your Door): Don’t just see a tiger. Imagine a massive tiger is crashing through your door, sending splinters flying everywhere. You can hear the wood cracking and the tiger roaring.

Your Task: Close your eyes. Mentally stand in the doorway of your room again. Now, begin your journey.

• Walk to your first locus, the door. What’s happening there? You see the wood splintering… from the tiger.
• Move to your second locus, the bed. What do you see and smell? The wet, dripping… blue paint.
• Continue to your third locus, the window. What just happened? The… rocket ship.
• Walk to your fourth locus, the desk. What’s on it? The heavy… pile of gold coins.
• Finally, open your fifth locus, the closet. Who greets you? The… giant talking cactus.

For a final test, try walking the path backwards, from the closet to the door. You’ll be amazed at how easily the images come to you.
